Spirit Week Post 5 – Patriotic Day

May 27, 2006

It has been one long week, but a good one nonetheless!  Today was Red, White and Blue Patriotic Day.  Here is my little get-up…

 kevinflag.jpg

Chapel was done by Evangelist Dan Souza and covered the topic of staying in God’s will.  Using his birthday ballons from last night, Brother Souza explained that some of use lack direction, some of us have our own desires and some of us are tied down by sin – all of which prevent us from staying in the will of God.  Yet, when we allow the Hand of the Master to control us, through prayer, Scripture reading and obedience, then we can have great victory.

Tomorrow – Saturday and finally some rest for this weary blogger.   But, come back here and I will hopefully have all of the audio files from chapel this week posted.  Take a listen and let me know your thoughts.

Don’t forget – tomorrow also brings with it another action-packed Delve into the Depths Podcast.

Spirit Week Post 4 – Sports Day and The Showcase

May 26, 2006

What a day it has been!  I am increadibly tired, but still feel the need to blog tonight.  See hoe dedicated I am to all my readers, both of you!

Today was sports dayand most everyone was dressed up.  While we had no kilts today, we had a variety of different sports represented.  I of course came in the apparel of the only sports team that I even just sometimes follow – the Boston Redsox.

Evangelist Matt Souza joined us in chapel today.  Brother Souza told the children in the junior chapel to beware of Satan’s lies.  I think they will forever have a fear of snakes after that message…  After the service, two young girls called upon the ord for Salvation!  In the senior chapel, Matt passionately encouraged the teens not to give up – not to give up on themselves, not to give up on others and not to give up on God.

The big event was the South Shore Christian School Showcase Night!  All of the classes gave their different performances and did a fantastic job!  We also were able to raise over $300 for the Louis Family, missionaries to Haiti.

Our speaker tonight was Evangelist Dan Souza.  Now, some of you more astute readers will notice the similarities in the name of this evangelist and the one who did our chapel.  Well, it was no coinsidence.  Today is Evangelist Dan Souza’s birthday.  To celebreate the ocassion, I asked his son, Evangelist Matt Souza, to join us. We were able to keep tht secret all day till the service tonight.  Brother Dan was surprised to see his son and family there to celebrate with him.

After all the festivities, we got to the preaching!  And what preaching it was!  I asked Brother Souza for an evangelistic message, and boy did he deliver!  It was a great message that presented the gospel, clearly, accurately and passionately.  Many made decisions tonight and we are praying the Lord will continue to work as we now begin the follow-up and dicsipleship.  The Lord did a work here tonight.  I will make the aduio file available as soon as I can get it up – you will want to listen!

Spirit Day Post 3 – International Day

May 25, 2006

Today was International Day, I wish you could have seen some of the outfits our students wore today!  One of our seniors came in wearing a kilt!  I keep searching the handbook, and although we ahve rules against women wearing pants, we have no rule about men wearing skirts…  Makes me wonder.  Of course, i would not be outdone by any student – so here I am.

Chapel today was a treat, as it always is.  Mr. Brian Reid (our high school teacher) preached in our junior chapel about the topic of prayer.  However, with his Toronto Maple Leafs shirt and gotee, he reminded me alot of Rick Warren….  Men wearing skirts, Rick Warren in chapel….  What kind of mess am I in!

The senior chapel speaker was Mr. Joe Jacobs, the music director here at North Baptist Church.  Brother Jacobs preached out of Jonah on the subject of “You can run, but You Can’t Hide!”

Spirit Week Post 2 – Crazy Hat Day

May 24, 2006

Ok, ok – I know what you all are thinking – did I wear a crazy hat?  The answer is yes.

supermankevin.jpg

What you may not see in the picture is the Superman emblem on the hat.  Yes, I am Superman.  I ago around as a milld-mannered Assistant Pastor/Principal, but whenever I hear a cry for help, I become – Superman!  Just thought I’d let you know.  By the way, the hat does glow in the dark!

For chapel today, Tim Reid gave a great lesson for our junior chapel time.  Tim is a graduating senior in our high school.  Tim’s message centered around the idea of the changes that take place at salvation

hatchapel.jpg

Grades 5-12 had the pleasure of a split chapel today.  I took the guys into the auditorium for a little “Father/Son” chat about a few things – some practical advice.  After all, you have to be practical!  No theology or doctrine for us!  Anyway, I’ll post the notes and link the audio file on this blog some other time.

Tomorrow – International Day.

Spirit Week Post 1 – Mismatch Day

May 23, 2006

This week is Spirit Week here at SSCS.  We have an exciting week packed full of special days and themes.  Today’s theme is mismatch day.  So today, all the kids purposefully wore clothes that did not match.  Of course, this is the only day of the year I look normal!

For chapel today, we were blessed again to have brother Gary Wimberly from First Bible International.  He spoke to the students urging them to get involved.

Well, I am quite tired this evening, so I will end this post here.  Tomorrow – Crazt Hat Day!

First Bible Sunday

May 22, 2006

Today was First Bible Sunday at North Baptist Church.  Here is an organization dedicated tor eaching those countries and people groups within the 10/40 window.  They want to be able to transalte the Bible into languages that never had a Bible before.  I am very excited about this group.  Their representative Gary Wimberly preached tonight.  Let me just share with you some thougths from the message:

- The church’s #1 responsability is not evangelism, but helping its members realize the glory of God.

- God does not does not have missions, but has one mission

- God’s goal in the great commission is not just to reach people, but is to save some out of every tribe, kindred, tongue and nation to worship Him around His throne.

- Who is depending upon you to pray for them?

Dental Update

May 19, 2006

My students left this for me yesterday. I had another serious pain attack that morning. I could not get a doctor anywhere! So, I finally wound up seeing an oral surgeon. Dr. Coyne does fill me with all lot of conifedence. He is a capable doctor and I do believe I am in good hands now. He gave me a more powerful pain killer, which I ma very thankful for. Actually, later last night, I had another doze of high pain. Dr. Coyne called me back after hours, explained what I was probably feeling was a muscle spasm, then gave me some tips on how to stop the pain. Last night was the first night in over a week that I actually slept!
